BEACHLEY SWAPS SURFBOARD FOR RACQUET AT THE NSW
CORPORATE GAMES
Seven Time ASP World
Surfing Champion, Layne Beachley, swapped
her surfboard for a tennis racquet and
teamed up with her former coach to represent
Double Drummer at the NSW Corporate Games. While
some companies reduced their team membership by as
much as 70%, DD doubled the size of its
team from 2008, fielding no less than 61
finely tuned athletes across 8 different sports
and finishing 6th overall in the
medal count.

BRADBURY KNOCKS OVER DEFENDING CHAMPS AT THE
QUEENSLAND CORPORATE GAMES
Winter
Olympics Gold Medallist and DD Ambassador Steve
Bradbury partnered Dave Keogh to knock out last
year's winners in the Open Men's Doubles and made
it to the Semi-Finals of the Queensland Corporate
Games... in tennis!

The 14th Winter Australian
Corporate Games is set for the weekend of August
1-2 in Thredbo. This is a great weekend of
fun in the snow... so if you were heading
to the slopes anyway, why not join the Double
Drummer team captained by legendary snow guide and
DD member, Johnny Walker and compete in
skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing or snow
volleyball? Great fun for all the
family!

SYDNEY
WORLD MASTERS GAMES 2009 - OCTOBER 10-18,
2009
Games fever will grip Sydney
again from October 10-18 2009 when the former
Olympic city hosts the World Masters Games. This
non-elite sporting event for everyone over 30 is
held every four years and is expected to
attract over 25,000 athletes from
around the globe. Register before 31 July
2009.

$58 billion - the cost of
obesity
 A new Government
report has found that the total cost of obesity in
2008 was $58.2 billion.
The report
recommended 20 measures to combat obesity in
Australia, which afflicts 68% of men and
55% of women. Key recommendations focused
on encouraging people to exercise (go Double
Drummers!), lobbying the food industry to lower
sugar, salt and fat levels in processed food and
creating better public health campaigns about
obesity and the benefits of leading a healthy
lifestyle.
If the growth rates in obesity
continue at the current level for the next 20
years, an estimated 6.9 million Australians will
be officially obese by 2025.

encouraging everyone to get up and walk. Elka and
Katrina are ambassadors for the Australian Women's
Weekly's Worldwide Walk. The target is to
circumnavigate the world and walk 40,075
kilometres. Read and comment on Elka's
