MEMBER TALKBACK
Coaching Carmilla
Thanks so much for the competition prize. I thoroughly enjoyed my two tennis lessons with Mat from Dreamachievers Tennis Academy. He was such a great coach that I'm pretty sure I'll be joining the group classes he runs in Melbourne. Now all I have to do is find a tennis partner on your site. If only improving my tennis game was that easy!

HEALTH & FITNESS TIPS
7 steps to preventing injury

1. Begin any new type of exercise gradually. Never increase the length or intensity of your workouts by more than 5% from one week to the next.

2. Change your shoes regularly, every 3 to 6 months depending on frequency of use.

3. If you feel any tingling, aching or soreness in a joint, muscle or tendon - either during or after a workout - stop that activity until signs of discomfort are gone. Avoid the temptation to 'work through' joint or tendon pain.

4. If you're suffering from mild muscular or joint pain that does not subside, seek the advice of a health professional (Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Osteopath) sooner rather than later. You can save yourself a lot of time out of action.

5. Ensure correct technique and posture during exercise at all times. Seek the advice of a fitness professional.

6. Regular strength training will help to strengthen and improve the integrity of muscles and joints, protecting them against injury, particularly spinal injuries.

7. Warm up and cool down properly. When warming up: progress the activity slowly from a gentle movement to the maximum session intensity. When cooling down: slowly progress the exercise(s) from the maximum session intensity to a gentle movement over about a 5-minute period.
