More than 3 million Australians either have or are at risk of having diabetes… chances are you know at least one of them. That’s why 16 high profile celebrities from the worlds of sport and entertainment will donate their time to play in the NSW Corporate Games Celebrity Tennis Day on Sunday February 7 to support this important cause.

And you can give too… by bidding for a ‘money CAN buy’ experience to play with your favourite celebrity at this great event.

The NSW Corporate Games

The Celebrity Tennis Day will also serve as the media launch for the 2010 NSW Corporate Games in March. Wholly owned by Diabetes Australia-NSW the Games serve as the Charity's largest annual fundraiser.

In 2010, the NSW Corporate Games are expected to attract over 8,000 competitors from some 300 organisations both big and small across 22 sports. Don't worry about that word ‘corporate’… these Games are for everyone! You don’t have to be an elite athlete… the whole point behind the NSW Corporate Games is to encourage participation in sport as a means of preventing diseases such as diabetes.

The 2010 Games will run from Thursday March 18 to Sunday March 21. If you want to be part of that action, find out more here.

Celebrity Tennis Day

Presented by Double Drummer and sponsored by GraysOnline, the Celebrity Tennis Day (like the NSW Corporate Games themselves) is all about promoting a healthy, active lifestyle as a means of preventing diseases like diabetes. We hope to raise over $20,000 on the day for Diabetes Australia-NSW.

Celebrity Auction

A huge Celebrity Auction will take place from January 22-February 1 at GraysOnline.com. You can bid to play with any of the 16 celebrities. The rules are simple… the highest bidder for each celebrity gets to play with that star in the main ‘Celebrity Fan Event’ on Sunday February 7.

Money raised from the auction and on the big day will go directly towards helping people with diabetes throughout their entire lives.

The Format

On the day, you and your celebrity partner will be sorted into 4 groups of 4 doubles teams to play 3 round-robin matches each. The highest ranked teams on overall games won will play off in knockout Semi-Final with the Final to follow.

Four celebrities who don’t make the semis of the ‘Celebrity Fan’ event will play a one-off ‘Celebrity All Star Showdown’ with pairings to be allocated on the day. A 'Stars of the Future’ Exhibition Match featuring Australian ranked juniors will be played on Centre Court during the lunch break. Our M.C. for the day is respected actor, Simon Westaway, currently best known for his portrayal of Mick Gatto in the TV series Underbelly

The NSW Corporate Games Celebrity Tennis Day will be held at Tennis Valley, a great club on Eastern Valley Way in Chatswood with 10 quality synthetic grass courts, a licensed bar and first-rate clubhouse facilities.

As an official Corporate Games Partner, Double Drummer has volunteered to present and manage this big pre-Games event. We’re all about encouraging people to lead healthy, active lifestyles by connecting them through sport, so we’re doing our bit to raise both community awareness and much-needed funding for the cause.

On the Day

Apart from being able to mingle with our 16 stars, you’ll get to watch all the fun and games as these very competitive celebrities from a range of backgrounds do battle in a good natured atmosphere. Yes they’ll be having fun, but given their competitive natures, you can bet they’ll all be gunning for the trophy too. Highlights of the big day will include:

  • The Celebrity Fan Round Robin Tournament – our main event, which will reach a climax with an exciting Final to be played on Tennis Valley’s Centre Court
  • The All Star Showdown - four selected celebrities who are no longer involved in the main event will slog it out for a second chance at glory
  • The Stars of the Future Exhibition Match - witness some real tennis players… some of the best juniors in Australia
  • A not-to-be-missed Silent Auction – many items donated and signed by the stars themselves
  • Raffles with a whole host of great prizes
  • Active Kidz presenting a special show for younger spectators
  • The Presentation of Trophies
