SPORT stars and North Shore tennis lovers turned out on Sunday to help raise more than $13,000 for Diabetes NSW. The event, where people could bid to play doubles with their favourite sports stars, was run by Tennis Valley in Chatswood. "We had a great day", club director Kit Meyers said. "We had a window on Sunday when it wasn't raining and had about 300 there during the day." ...

Seven Time ASP World Surfing Champion and local legend, Layne Beachley, is swapping her surfboard for a tennis racquet in a bid to raise funds for Diabetes Australia-NSW.

Recognised internationally as the greatest female surfer of all time, Layne once harboured aspirations of following a pro. tennis career (she was about 10 at the time)… but with the help of her astute coach, she soon realised she was even more capable in the water than on land. She of course went on to become one of Australia’s greatest ever athletes...

Seven Time World Surfing Champion Layne Beachley has made sure she won’t miss out on the 2009 NSW Corporate Games by signing up with ‘Team Double Drummer’ - just before entries close.

With no surfing in the 22 sports on offer, Layne will compete in the Open Mixed Doubles Tennis Event at Macquarie University on Sunday 22 March.

Tennis is not something new to Layne. As a child she once harboured aspirations of being a professional tennis player, but soon realised she was more capable in the water than on land...

Olympian joins NSW Corporate Games

Former Olympic Swimmer, Elka Graham will compete in this year’s NSW Corporate Games.  Silver medallist in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Elka will swim in the 50m and 100m freestyle on Saturday, 15 March, for the Double Drummer team.

Double Drummer is a new online social networking site and has registered to compete in five sports: Tennis, Volleyball, Golf, Triathlon and Swimming.

In addition to Elka, Double Drummer has enlisted the children of former 1970s Davis Cup tennis player, Bob Giltinan. Lara and Robert will play in the singles tennis event...
