2011 Queensland Corporate Games Results

Congratulations and thanks for representing DD in the Queensland Corporate Games

Double Drummer headed to Brisbane in May with its “biggest contingent” so far. Even with a small team of 17 select athletes (vs. 1,700 from the Queensland Government team) we still managed to finish 24th overall on the medal tally from 124 organisations that entered the Games. DD’s tennis team picked up all five medals providing Double Drummer it’s best result in the Queensland Corporate Games so far.

Our congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the DD colours… in particular to our interstate participants – Robyn Novakovic, Maria Dalton, Stephen Downs (squash) who flew from Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, respectively to support the Queensland Games and to Jackie Potter for being organiser-extraordinaire of DD’s netball team.

The Medal Winners were:

TENNIS
Dave Keogh & Anna Cosio – Mixed Open – 1st place
Claudia Hong – Singles Women 40+ – 1st place
Robyn Novakovic – Singles Women 40+ – 2nd Place
Maria Dalton – Singles Women 40+ – 3rd Place
Maria Dalton & Robyn Novakovic – Doubles Women Open – 2nd Place

Special mention

Although they missed out on the medals, these individuals finished in the top 8 in their events and contributed vital points to the Double Drummer team total.

TENNIS
Paul Hyde – Singles Men 40+ – 5th place
Claudia Hong & Paul Hyde – Mixed Open – 7th place

Games organisers were thrilled with the number of entries. There were about 5,000 participants in Brisbane from 124 organisations, with the Queensland Government supplying 1,743 of those competitors – a Corporate Games World Record.

With NSW and Queensland now behind us, we look forward to the Australian Corporate Games in Melbourne this November... and prior to that, the Winter Games in Thredbo in July for all our snow sport enthusiasts.

2011 Winter and Australian Corporate Games

The Winter Corporate Games is all about fun in the snow and you don’t even have to be a skier to participate! Sports include Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Snow Volleyball and Snow Tubing!

Held over the last weekend in July (Saturday 30 and Sunday 31), entries close on Wednesday July 13. Families are encouraged to participate and there’ll be all the usual fun with the Games Welcome and Medal Presentations to be held at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel.Click here for full details

Then it’s on to the BIG one in Melbourne, with over 10,000 athletes from more than 300 organisations expected to compete across 20 sports over three days of exciting competition. And the cause we’re helping this time is the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria. The Australian Corporate Games will be held this year from November 25-27 so mark those dates in your diary now.

So thanks again for your support in Queensland and for helping to raise money for a great cause. If you enjoyed the QLD Games experience, remember we’re doing it all again in Thredbo in July and Melbourne in November! With DD ‘on tour’ again, there’s bound to be plenty more great performances during the day (and unruly social activity happening every night!). Click here for full details

A huge thanks again everyone. Look forward to more fun in the near future.
